Control the Progression of Myopia

Most people with myopia develop it in childhood and it gradually worsens as they get older. While there is no cure for myopia, myopia control can slow the progression and help prevent the need for thick glasses as you age.

Myopia Explained

Myopia, commonly referred to as near-sightedness, is the inability to see objects that are far away. Myopia is caused by the shape of the eye being elongated or the cornea being too steep, creating a focal point in front of the retina. Myopia is becoming increasingly common, especially in children, but there are also new methods we can use to treat and control it.

Myopia Control Methods

While there is no cure for myopia, prescription lenses aren’t the only option. Other treatments are available to help slow the progression of myopia over time.

MiSight® 1 Day

Normal eye growth can lead to myopia worsening over time. MiSight® 1 Day contact lenses are a myopia treatment option for children that slows eye growth and ultimately the progression of myopia.

MiSight® 1 Day contact lenses are designed specifically for kids. They are low-maintenance daily disposables, so managing contact lens hygiene for your children is less of a concern. Most importantly, these 1 Day contact lenses have been shown to reduce the progression of myopia by up to 50%.

Multifocal contact lenses are another treatment option for myopia that have proven to be more effective than multifocal eyeglasses. The lenses contain multiple prescriptions in concentric rings, for seeing objects up close and far away. The near prescription allows a child’s eyes to use their natural focusing abilities, which helps to prevent the eyes from weakening and myopia from increasing over time.

Multifocal eyeglasses have proven to be more effective for slowing the progression of myopia when compared to conventional distance eyeglasses. If you have concerns about your child wearing contact lenses or if contact lenses are not an option, multifocal eyeglasses can be used to help reduce myopia progression.
